umo — Neuroscience for Everyday Athletes

umo builds neuroscience-based tools for everyday athletes. NeuroScore, our daily readiness score (0–100), combines HRV, sleep, reaction time, tremor, and subjective wellness into one signal you can act on. Content is written and reviewed by Scott Mongold, PhD (Co-Founder & CSO; biomechanist and neurophysiologist, ULB).

What is umo?

umo is a neuroscience-based readiness platform. We enrich the data your wearables already collect with science-backed assessments — so you can decide whether today is a day to train hard, modify the session, or pull back. We're built for everyday athletes: runners, lifters, cyclists, triathletes, and team-sport players who train regularly and want to train smarter.

What is NeuroScore?

NeuroScore is umo's daily readiness score. It's a number between 0 and 100 that represents how prepared your nervous system is to train hard today. It combines five inputs:

  • Heart rate variability (HRV) — variation between heartbeats, a proxy for parasympathetic recovery
  • Sleep — total time, architecture (deep, REM, wake), and consistency
  • Reaction time — a quick cognitive test that reflects central nervous system state
  • Tremor — fine motor steadiness, tracked via accelerometer
  • Subjective wellness — how you feel, captured with a short daily check-in

A score above 70 generally indicates readiness for a hard session. A score below 50 suggests backing off or modifying the plan. umo shows trends alongside the daily number so you can see whether your readiness is trending up or down.

How NeuroScore helps you train smarter

Training decisions based on HRV alone (or worse, "I feel okay") miss context. Sleep affects how you recover. Reaction time reflects CNS fatigue that HRV can miss. Subjective feel catches illness and stress days earlier than physiology. NeuroScore combines these into one signal so you don't have to interpret five numbers every morning.

Integrations — no new hardware

umo syncs with wearables you already use: Apple Health, Garmin, Oura, Fitbit, Whoop, and Elite HRV. No new bands, rings, or chest straps required. Connect once, and your data flows into umo automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Who is umo for?

Everyday athletes who train regularly and want a clear readiness signal — runners, lifters, cyclists, triathletes, and team-sport players. Also coaches managing athletes across a roster.

What devices does umo work with?

Apple Health, Garmin, Oura, Fitbit, Whoop, and Elite HRV. No umo hardware required — connect the device you already use.

How is NeuroScore different from my wearable's readiness score?

Most wearable readiness scores use 1–2 inputs (usually HRV and sleep). NeuroScore adds reaction time, tremor, and subjective wellness — three signals that catch fatigue states HRV alone misses.

Is NeuroScore backed by research?

Yes. It draws on neuromechanics and sports science research. All umo health content is reviewed by Scott Mongold, PhD.
